Message From Patriot's President

Hello Pats Fans!

What a challenging and unprecedented time we have experienced over the last 15 months! From stay at home orders, lockdowns and not knowing of what is next, we have seen our community affected in challenging ways.  Small businesses and families have struggled to make ends meet, stay healthy and remain positive that we will come out of this pandemic.

Our club is not alone in the need to find new and unique ways to continue forward motion and growth.  Not only do we need to consider our players and organization and how we prepare to start a new season, but we also need to find ways to support our community as they have always supported us.

As an executive team, we plan to prepare for the 2021-22 season with optimism and determination.  As our province continues to make strides towards a complete return to pre-Covid activity, we will be ready to welcome our community and fans back to the Mount Forest and District Sports Complex; Home of The Patriots!

Please consider shopping locally, as the support of our community and sponsors is key to the success of everyone.

Yours in hockey,

Ian Francis, President, Mount Forest Patriots Junior C Hockey Team

Patriots Say Goodbye to a Loyal Fan

The Mount Forest Patriots are saddened by the sudden passing of Heather Aitken, one of our #1 fans. Heather volunteered countless hours to the Patriots over the years and rarely missed a game. The Patriots send their sincere condolences to Stu, Bernice and Colton.

PJHL Announces Cancellation of Season

The Provincial Junior Hockey League (PJHL) has decided to formally announce the cancellation of the 2020-2021 season. While we did everything possible it became evidently clear that a season would not be possible with all the COVID restrictions. With many municipalities removing their ice and using their arenas as vaccination clinics, our teams were without ice to practice or play. And with a league our size the time to operate a season and then some form of playoffs became nearly impossible. Throughout the non-season many PJHL teams were able to play in a ‘bubble’ format and compete in modified 5 on 5 hockey with no contact. The PJHL followed all approved protocols provided by our local health units and our governing bodies to ensure we did everything possible to prevent the spread of the virus. The safety of our players, staff, officials, volunteers and fans are of utmost importance to us. When and if restrictions are lifted, some of our teams may continue to skate and provide opportunity for their players to conduct exhibition play. This will involve approvals from their local health units, the league and follow the approved COVID-19 operating protocols. Our teams will be embracing their communities to help bring hockey, entertainment and business back to life as we all emerge from this pandemic. It will be an enormous task and will take the effort of all of our collective communities to rally together to support each other. The PJHL is community based competitive hockey that stands for all the great things that our communities are known for: active living, personal achievement, leadership, sportsmanship, teamwork, competitiveness, and community service. The PJHL Board of Directors, staff and teams are now all actively engaged in planning for the 2021-2022 season with hopes for a complete return to traditional hockey. We want to thank all of the dedicated players, sponsors, staff and fans of the PJHL for enduring through the pandemic. We look forward to seeing our 63 teams back competing for the Schmalz Cup in 2021-2022.

Press Release PJHL

PRESS RELEASE

During a meeting of the Governors of the PJHL, it was decided that the league would set a projected starting date of February 1, 2021 for the regular season.  This date will be incumbent upon gaining the permission of all health authorities and governing bodies and will take into account the safety of our players, coaches, officials, staff and fans. Details regarding schedules and playoff formats have been reviewed and will be decided closer to the projected start date.

Thank you for your interest in the PJHL.

CHERIE'S TOY DRIVE

To our valued Pats Nation,

For years, Cherie Noble, Secretary of the MF Patriots,  organized a Toy Drive each December. Since her passing, we have carried on this tradition in her name, "Cherie's Toy Drive."  Unfortunately, due to Covid-19, we are unable to host this event.  But the need to help out our community is greater than ever before.  If you are able to help families in need, please pick an ANGEL off an Angel Tree located at various stores throughout Mount Forest, and the Holstein Store. This is organized by the Mount Forest Christmas Bureau.   Angel Tree Program - Home | Facebook

Simply pick an angel off the tree and have fun shopping for that special gift. Return the gift, unwrapped with the angel attached, and place it back under the tree. Get into the Christmas spirit!

If you would rather make a donation, please send an etransfer to: Christmasbureaudonations@gmail.com

PJHL Planning Safe Return-to-the-Rink

Press Release August 25, 2020

PJHL Planning Safe Return-to-the Rink Provincial Junior Hockey League planning safe return-to-the-rink for 2020-21 season following vote by its Governors. [Cambridge, Ontario]:

The Provincial Junior Hockey League has set December 1, 2020 as its target date for a return to game action, subject to the approvals of government, local health officials, and Hockey Canada authorities. Ontario's largest junior hockey league is forecasting a meaningful regular season, with teams playing at least 24 games, and a competitive playoff format for the Schmalz Cup in an environment with strict adherence to COVID-19 safety requirements. "Collectively, our members have worked diligently to be prepared for a safe return to competition when possible," said PJHL Chair Sandra Neubauer. By setting a targeted start date, we are supporting our players, teams, and communities to effectively plan to resume the game." Over the coming weeks, the PJHL will work to finalize return-to-the-rink provisions in concert with the appropriate authorities. The December 1 target date is subject to change based on evolving legislation and public health guidance.

Please direct questions to: Terry Whiteside, Commissioner commissioner@thepj.ca or Sandra Neubauer, Chair chair@thepj.ca
